Tourist Attractions: The apartment is located in the historic Oltrarno district, which means "across the Arno," and this area stretches along the southern bank of the river. Oltrarno represents the true essence of Florence: a quiet, green area that is more relaxing than other parts of the city. This is why more and more tourists appreciate it. This area is also known as the craft district, famous for its delightful workshops, small shops, and artisan studios (particularly antique dealers and leather craftsmen). Via Maggio is the center of Florentine antiques. Once a rural area, Oltrarno became a chic neighborhood where many aristocrats built their palaces and villas. The largest of these is undoubtedly Palazzo Pitti, which was once the residence of the Grand Duke of Tuscany. Today, Palazzo Pitti hosts many exhibitions and museums, some of the most important in the city. Other important attractions in Oltrarno include the Brancacci Chapel with its magnificent frescoes by Masaccio, Masolino, and Filippino Lippi, Piazzale Michelangelo with its breathtaking view of Florence, the magnificent San Miniato church (one of the highest points in the city and the best example of Romanesque art in Tuscany), and Ponte Vecchio, home to countless jewelry shops and goldsmiths. Inside Palazzo Pitti, you'll find the beautiful Boboli Gardens, an open-air museum of sculptures, some dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries.
Oltrarno is also famous for the Santo Spirito square market (set up every morning), its cafés and wine bars (Olio & Convivium, Bene Vobis, Caffè degli Artigiani…), and trattorias offering Tuscan cuisine (Santo Bevitore, I 4 Leoni, Osteria del Cinghiale Bianco, Il Magazzino…). Those who choose to live in this area will find a wide range of grocery stores, bakeries, patisseries, and much more.
